London Kitesurfers app — Support

Need a hand with the app, spotted something wrong in a forecast, or have a suggestion? We’re a volunteer-run club and we’re happy to help.

Get in touch

The quickest way to reach us is through the LKSA community channels on the contact page — the London Kitesurfers WhatsApp group is the best place for a fast reply. Tell us your device (iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch) and what you were doing, and we’ll get back to you.

Common questions

The forecast looks out of date. The app downloads a fresh forecast file each time you open it; the underlying data is rebuilt several times a day. Pull to refresh, or check your internet connection if it won’t load.

Where does the data come from? The same pipeline as the website — Windguru wind models (Met Office UKV 2 km, AROME 1.3 km and longer-range models) blended for the best available guidance, plus UK Admiralty tide predictions. Every spot also carries the LKSA multi-model forecast, which draws five global models plus MET Norway alongside the LKSA weighted line so you can see how much they agree, and live readings from nearby weather stations. It is a forecast, so always use your own judgement on the day and ride within your limits.

Do I need an account? No. There is no LKSA sign-up, no LKSA login and nothing to configure. The one optional sign-in is Windguru, if you have your own Windguru PRO account and want your PRO models in the app — that is a normal windguru.cz login in a web view, the session stays on your device, and LKSA never sees the credentials. See the Privacy Policy.

Where is the Apple Watch app? It comes with the iPhone app — install it from the Watch app on your iPhone (My Watch → Available Apps). It needs watchOS 11 or later, and it fetches its own data over Wi-Fi or mobile, so it works with your phone switched off or left in the car. It does not measure jumps.

My sessions aren’t importing. Sessions come in from Apple Health, from GPX files (Woo, Surfr, Zef, Hoolan, Garmin, Strava and most others), or by hand. For Health imports, check LKSA has permission in Settings → Health → Data Access. Sessions sync between your own Apple devices over iCloud, so make sure iCloud is signed in on both.

A community spot is wrong. Shared spots are collaborative: suggest an edit from the spot page and safe additions apply straight away, while larger changes go to whoever created the spot. Every spot keeps a version, an “added by” credit and a full edit history, and the creator can roll any change back. If something needs removing rather than editing, message us on WhatsApp.

Safety. Please read the club’s safety guidance and spot guidelines before you ride.

Age suitability

The London Kitesurfers (LKSA) app is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages. It contains no objectionable material: no violence, no mature or suggestive themes, no profanity, and no gambling.

  • No in-app purchases, subscriptions or ads.
  • No in-app chat or user-to-user messaging. “I’m going” declarations are anonymous counts only, with an optional first-name nickname you choose.
  • Community spots let riders share beach information — a name, location and riding notes. Publishing a spot publicly is a separate, deliberate opt-in; the text is checked on device and flagged entries are held for review before they are listed. There is no free-form messaging between users.
  • No LKSA account or login. Your spots, sessions and trips stay on your own devices and sync through your iCloud — see the Privacy Policy for exactly what is and is not collected.
  • External links (Windguru, what3words, our website and the WhatsApp community) open standard third-party services; the WhatsApp group is an adult planning community and is clearly labelled as an external link.

Kitesurfing is a water sport with real-world risks. This app is a forecast and planning aid, not a substitute for training, supervision or local knowledge. Younger riders should only kite under qualified instruction and adult supervision, and everyone should follow BKSA safety guidance and local beach rules.
