Essex

  • Frinton-on-Sea
Large north-east-facing sandy beach with a huge grass promenade behind it β€” excellent for rigging β€” and one of the few Essex spots that works in a northeasterly. When the wind has been up for a day or two a small shore break forms. Don’t launch within 2 hours of high water: at HW the sea comes right up to the concrete sea wall in the middle of the bay; the ends of the bay stay more usable. Groynes run the length of the bay β€” at low tide they’re well clear of the water; at mid-to-high tide know where they are before launching. Not heavily crowded except on a good NE day (10–20 kites when it lights up). Beginners OK at low tide if they set up upwind of the wall. Schools nearby: Push Kiting (Clacton / Point Clear, ~15 min), Zenith Kiting (Clacton). πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking Schools: Push Kiting, Zenith Kiting (Clacton).

  • Point Clear
Sheltered tidal lagoon behind the Colne estuary β€” a specialist flat-water freeride/freestyle spot at its best when the wind has a W or SW component around high tide. Butter-flat and great for progression, but intermediate-plus due to estuary character, technical launches, and limited parking. Set against the backdrop of a historic Martello Tower. Schools nearby: Push Kiting. πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking School: Push Kiting.

  • East Beach
Big open beach on the north side of the Thames Estuary with a very broad wind range (NE through SW). Best at low-to-mid water β€” avoid high tide when the beach shrinks and the walk out becomes impractical. Good for freeride, freestyle, and learning when the tide is right. The broad wind arc makes it a reliable fallback when other Thames-side spots don’t line up. School on site: Essex Kitesurf School. πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking School: Essex Kitesurf School.

  • Uncle Tom’s Cabin
Adjacent to East Beach. Reveals ankle- to waist-deep lagoons at low tide β€” a favourite for freestyle, freeride, and improving riders. Works in W, SW, S, SE, and E. Most riders switch to East Beach as the tide comes in. Butter-flat channels when the banks are exposed. The spot gets busy, and mussel beds mean booties are strongly recommended. Paid Southend Council parking nearby. School: Essex Kitesurf School (mobile, Southend-based). πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking School: Essex Kitesurf School (mobile).

Kent

  • Minster
North Kent’s go-to spot when the wind goes northerly. Best in NW, N, and NE β€” NW and N are the sweet spot. SW is specifically flagged as UNSAFE here β€” do not launch in a southwesterly. Works at both high and low tide in the right conditions. Flat-to-chop, small waves in stronger northerlies. Suitable for most levels when conditions are right. πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking School: Infinity Sport Kitesurfing (mobile).

  • Whitstable
North-facing spot with a very broad wind range. The Point gives the best flat-water conditions at low-to-mid tide when the sandbanks show β€” ideal for freestyle and blasting. The Street is the neighbouring launch on the same stretch, used when the spit is exposed on that side. As the tide rises it gets choppier but remains workable for experienced riders. Beginner windows exist when the banks are showing and conditions are light. Schools & shops: Kitesurf Kent School, Tide Watersports, Boardworx. πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking Schools: Kitesurf Kent School, Tide Watersports, Boardworx (shop).

  • St Mary’s Bay / Dymchurch
Infinity Sport’s mobile training ground on the south Kent coast β€” suited for mid-tide coaching with deeper water access for hydrofoil progression. Very broad wind arc (S, SW, SE, E, NE, N). W is a no-go. Kiting is not advised 3 hours either side of HW; wing/hydrofoil is best within 2 hours after HW. Public beach users have priority β€” no kiting past the coffee van. Beware submerged groynes at high tide. Parking, toilets, shower, and a coffee van on site at St Mary’s Bay. The village of Dymchurch is a short walk north with shops, cafes, and The Ship Inn. School: Infinity Sport Kitesurfing. πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking School: Infinity Sport Kitesurfing.

One of the finest flat-water spots in south-east England β€” very shallow, shelving, often butter-flat. Exceptional for learning, freeride, freestyle, and foiling. The only beach on the South Coast that works in a north-easterly. Low tide is the target; competent riders can use most of the tide cycle but beginners should avoid ~90 min either side of HW. School: Infinity Sport Kitesurfing. πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking School: Infinity Sport Kitesurfing.

  • Jury’s Gap
Challenging high-performance spot favoured for big-air kiting β€” big kickers between Lydd-on-Sea and Camber. Works in S, SE, E, and SW. NW and NE are no-go (NW creates gusty/offshore conditions). No formal lessons β€” community meetups organised via WhatsApp. Hazards: Army shooting range (red flags mean no kiting past the range), hidden shipwreck in line with MOD tower (extreme caution near the wreck during neap/low tides). Forecast: use Camber Sands. πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking ⚠ Army shooting range (red flags = no go past range); hidden shipwreck in line with MOD tower.

East Sussex

  • Camber Sands
Iconic long sandy beach near Rye β€” the spiritual home of UK kitesurfing. Works in ESE through WSW with S–SW the classic directions. Tide is critical: mid to low is the target β€” avoid 2–3 hours either side of HW when the beach shrinks. Mix of flat sections, bump-and-jump, and small waves depending on wind angle. Can get busy at weekends. Schools: The Kitesurf Centre, Camber Kitesurfing. πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking Schools: The Kitesurf Centre, Camber Kitesurfing.

  • Cooden Beach
Works when the wind has a westerly component β€” SW is optimum; WSW and W also good. Best at mid to low tide; low tide can expose rocks so look before launching. Open-sea waves and chop β€” bump-and-jump for intermediate+ riders. Short walk from Cooden Beach station. Schools: Goose Kitesurfing (Herbrand Walk), Be-Rad Watersports (Pevensey-based, uses Cooden in strong W). πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking Schools: Goose Kitesurfing, Be-Rad Watersports (Pevensey-based).

  • Pevensey Bay
Popular mid-Sussex spot between Bexhill and Eastbourne. Shingle beach at high tide giving way to sandy open beach at low tide; a sandbank at low tide flattens the water and reduces chop. Works best in SW and S (S gives better waves over the sandbar); also rideable in SE, NE, and E at higher tides. Home base of Be-Rad Watersports. πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking School: Be-Rad Watersports.

West Sussex

  • Lancing Beach
Six miles west of Brighton, with a very broad usable wind range (ESE through W) β€” SW is the local favourite. Best at falling to low tide: high tide leaves little room between the beach huts and groynes. Shallow water and small chop make for good teaching zones at low tide. Mixed levels; set up well clear of groynes and don’t launch if there is any doubt about space. Easy by train (London Victoria direct). Schools: Lancing Kitesurf School, Brighton Kitesurf & SUP Academy, Evolution Boardsports (shop). πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking Schools: Lancing Kitesurf School, Brighton Kitesurf & SUP Academy, Evolution Boardsports (shop).

  • Goring-by-Sea
Open shingle beach between Worthing and Littlehampton. Works in SW, SSW, S, SSE, and SE. MID-TO-HIGH tide only β€” low tide exposes rocks and flint beds, making it unsuitable and potentially dangerous. Grass behind the beach huts is useful for rigging. Chop and small waves β€” bump-and-jump, intermediate+ freeride venue, not a learner beach. Schools: LearnToKitesurf (Steve Sinnhuber), Brighton Kitesurf & SUP Academy, The KiTE, SURF & SUP Co. πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking Schools: LearnToKitesurf.co.uk, Brighton Kitesurf & SUP Academy, The KiTE, SURF & SUP Co..

Where the Arun river meets the sea β€” mix of flat river-mouth water and open beach conditions. Works in a broad southern arc (ESE through W). Best at low tide β€” water is shallow, flat, and much more learner-friendly than many Sussex beaches. Conditions tighten as the tide rises. Busy in summer; respect swim zones. • East Wittering (Jolliffe Rd)
Wide sandy beach on the Manhood Peninsula, south-facing. Works in SSE through WNW β€” WSW is the especially good cross-shore angle. Best at low tide; the high-tide shore-dump can be aggressive and catches people out. More open-sea waves and bump-and-jump than Camber. Schools: 2XS Watersports (West Wittering), Get Kiteboarding (Bracklesham). πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking Schools: 2XS Watersports Centre, Get Kiteboarding (Bracklesham).

  • Hayling Island (West Beach / CBK)
Outstanding flat-water spot in the Solent β€” broad usable range from E through W. Best at low to mid water β€” avoid ~1 hour either side of HW. Sandbars at lower tide give flat conditions ideal for all levels; outside the sandbar zone there is more open-sea texture. East Winner sand bar appears 4 hours either side of low tide forming a flat lagoon >1 km out. CBK is the longest-running kitesurf school in the UK (since 1999) β€” structured environment with rescue cover. Very popular at weekends; membership or day passes required. πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking School: CBK Hayling Island (since 1999).

  • Hillhead (Meon Shore / Titchfield Haven)
Quieter Solent beach near Fareham, well-positioned for westerly/north-westerly winds. Works in SW through NW β€” the westerly arc gives cross-shore conditions along this south-facing stretch. Rideable at any tide state, making it a flexible option when Hayling is busy. Also listed by Airzone as Meon Shore / Titchfield Haven β€” same beach. School: Airzone Kitesurf School (since 2002, run by Berny & Zoe Maginn). πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking School: Airzone Kitesurf School.

  • Calshot Spit
Famous mile-long sand-and-shingle spit on the southern bank of Southampton Water. Works in essentially any wind direction because of the spit’s shape; NE/E give cross-to-cross-onshore at the front of the spit, and the summer SW sea breeze gets funnelled down the Solent reliably. Shallow sandbar on the Solent side at low tide creates a big butter-flat lagoon (ideal for learning). Watch for strong tidal flow around the spit. School: Calshot Activities Centre (council watersports centre). πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking School: Calshot Activities Centre.

  • Poole Harbour
One of the largest natural harbours in the world and one of the finest kite spots in the UK. Exceptionally sheltered flat water inside the harbour β€” particularly around Whitley Lake (waist-deep, calm) β€” outstanding for learning, foiling, and progression. Works in a broad range of directions; use local judgement for the right launch point within the harbour. Rideable at any tide; low tide can be very shallow and muddy in places. About 2 hours from west London β€” feasible day trip. • Sandbanks (sea side)
The sea-facing side of the Sandbanks peninsula (contrast with the calm harbour side at Poole). Works when there is south in the wind β€” S, SSW, SW are best. Hook Sands tends to produce better conditions at mid-to-low tide, with small-to-medium waves. Bump-and-jump and wave-riding spot β€” intermediate+. Absolute beginners are better served on the harbour side or at Poole Harbour. πŸ…ΏοΈ Parking Schools: Poole Harbour Watersports School, Easy Riders.
