The London Kitesurfers app

A free, no-nonsense kitesurfing forecast — the companion app to londonkitesurfers.com, built by the London Kite Surfers Association. It starts with the 25+ spots of the south-east, and with version 2 it goes anywhere you kite in the world, and onto your wrist.

What it does

• 7-day forecast for 25+ SE England spots — from Camber and Greatstone to Hayling, Frinton and the Essex spots.
• Wind you can act on — average and gust speed, direction, and an hour-by-hour breakdown, with the best riding window called out for each day.
• Tides that matter — every high and low with times and heights, and the tide window each spot actually works in.
• Spot info — maps, parking, launch points and local notes for every break.
• Same data as the website — the app reads the same forecast, built from Met Office UKV 2 km, AROME and other models plus UK Admiralty tide predictions, refreshed several times a day.

Kite spots anywhere in the world

Drop a pin anywhere on the planet and add a spot in three steps — place it, name it, add the details — or let the guided builder read your past GPS sessions and turn the places you have actually ridden into ready-made spots.

Every spot is Private or Shared. A private spot is yours and collects nothing. A shared spot fills with data: a 7-day multi-model wind forecast, tide predictions where the model covers them, and live readings from real weather stations near the beach — all on the spot page, like any LKSA spot.

You can share a spot as a link (send it to a friend and it imports itself on their iPhone, iPad or Mac), or list it publicly so it joins the community map layer every LKSA user can browse. Listing is a separate, deliberate opt-in. Shared spots are collaborative: safe edits apply instantly, bigger ones queue for the spot’s creator, and every spot keeps a version, an “added by” credit and a full edit history.

On your wrist — the Apple Watch app

• The spots that matter — your favourites, today’s best spots, your next planned trip, and the spots around wherever you are standing.
• Live wind from nearby stations, with direction and reading time, and a red OFFSHORE warning when the wind is blowing off the beach.
• Today and tomorrow’s forecast for any spot, plus a spot map on the watch itself, and two complications for your watch face.
• Session recording — time, distance, speed, runs and turns counted live, saved to Apple Health, with your last five tracks drawn on the watch.

The watch fetches its own data over Wi-Fi or mobile, so it works with your phone switched off or left in the car. It does not measure jumps — run something like Hoolan or Surfr alongside it if you want those.

Sessions — a logbook, not just a tracker

Sessions arrive from Apple Health, from GPX files (Woo, Surfr, Zef, Hoolan, Garmin, Strava and most others), or by hand when you forgot to press record. Each one opens on an analysis view: your track on the map, runs, tacks and gybes, top speeds, time planing, gybe efficiency and a wind estimate from the GPS alone — alongside the record of the spots, places, countries and continents you have kited.

Everything syncs privately between your own Apple devices over iCloud.

Six models, and how much they agree

Every spot — LKSA or community — carries the LKSA multi-model forecast for up to seven days: five global weather models plus MET Norway, drawn alongside the LKSA weighted forecast. The point is not the extra lines but the spread. When all six sit on top of each other the forecast is about as good as forecasts get; when two are 8 knots apart you have learned something a single tidy number would have hidden.

Live wind, not just predictions

See what the anemometers are actually reporting. Compare the forecast against nearby stations, each reading labelled with which station it came from, how far away it is and how recent it is. A Live Wind overview is the quickest way to check today’s forecast against reality across the best spots.

Windguru, including PRO

Search for a spot in the app and it picks up the Windguru ID automatically. Use the public forecast, or sign in once in Settings with a Windguru PRO account for PRO models and extended range without leaving the app. The sign-in is a normal windguru.cz login in a web view and the session stays on your device — LKSA never sees the credentials.

Trips and Travel mode

Plan a trip to any spot, LKSA or community, anywhere in the world, with the picker sorted by best-for-the-day or nearest to you. Travel mode is one switch that turns LKSA into a travel companion: the map opens where you are, community spots near you are shown, and the London alerts go quiet so your phone stops telling you about Camber while you are in Greece.

On the Mac

Nearly all of version 2 is on macOS too — community and worldwide spots, multi-model forecasts, live wind, Windguru and PRO, session analysis and Travel mode — with spots, trips and the session log syncing through iCloud between Mac, iPhone and iPad. Watch recording and Apple Health import are handled by the iPhone and Watch.

No accounts, no ads, no tracking

There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to log in to. The app shows you the forecast and gets out of the way. Your spots, sessions and trips live on your own devices and sync privately over your iCloud. It collects no personal data — see the Privacy Policy for the details.

On Windows or Android?

The LKSA web app runs in any modern browser — the same spot map, 7-day forecasts, tide windows and kiting-today counts, installable to your home screen or Start menu (Chrome/Edge: menu → “Install app”) and it works offline once loaded.
