Wide view of a south-east England kite beach with riders on the water under a big sky

The forecast, now in your pocket

Wednesday 25 June 2026 — London Kitesurfers — by Alan Jay

Every weekend it is the same lovely problem. The wind fills in somewhere along the coast, the WhatsApp group lights up, and twenty conversations break out at once about where the session actually is — which spot has the wind, whether the tide is right, and what time to leave London. We have been answering those questions on londonkitesurfers.com for a while now. Today we are putting the whole thing in your pocket.

The London Kitesurfers app is live on the App Store — free, for iPhone, iPad and Mac.

The same forecast that powers the website

This is not a different forecast bolted onto a phone. The app reads exactly the same data as the site — built from Met Office UKV 2 km, AROME and other models, plus UK Admiralty tide predictions, refreshed several times a day. What you see on the web map, you see in the app. We did the plumbing so that the two never disagree.

What it does

  • A 7-day forecast for 25+ SE England spots — from Camber and Greatstone to Hayling, Frinton and the Essex spots, and the further-afield places too.
  • Wind you can act on — average and gust speed, direction, and an hour-by-hour breakdown, with the best riding window called out for each day.
  • Tides that matter — every high and low with times and heights, and the tide window each spot actually works in.
  • The spot map — the same map as the website, so you can see at a glance where the wind is and tap straight through to a spot.
  • Favourite spots — save the breaks you ride most so they are first in the list.
  • Push alerts — an optional nudge when a good wind day and a potential session are coming up, so you do not have to keep refreshing.

No accounts, no ads, no tracking

There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to log in to. The app shows you the forecast and gets out of the way. It collects no personal data — the developer’s privacy summary on the App Store says “Data Not Collected”, and you can read the full privacy policy for the details. It is built by the club, for the club, and it always will be.

How to get it

Tap a badge above on your iPhone, iPad or Mac, or search “London Kitesurfers” on the App Store. It needs iOS or iPadOS 18.6, or macOS 14.6, or later — and it is on Apple Vision too. Once it is installed, turn on notifications if you would like the heads-up when the wind is coming.

Give it a go this weekend, and let us know what you think on WhatsApp or Telegram — what works, what is missing, and which spot you want us to add next. This is version one, and the whole point of building it ourselves is that we can keep making it better for the way our group actually rides.

See you on the water.
